Well-rounded support across five key areas
The HAVEN Bridge incorporates five key topics throughout the program. Each topic is built on the foundational understanding that there isn’t a right or wrong way to be, think, or communicate.
Being Together, Being Me
“Being Together, Being Me” underscores the importance of communicating, listening, and having fun with others AND being ones authentic self. There are many ways to communicate, listen, and have fun, and each and every way is valid. “Being Together, Being Me” supports children in being their authentic selves while together with others.
What Do I Need
Many neurodivergent folks have their needs repeatedly denied or invalidated. “What Do I Need?” supports children in identifying different types of needs, including basic needs, sensory needs, and activity and interest needs. With the help of the Insight Sprites, children will learn how to recognize needs in themselves and how their needs may differ from others. Ultimately, they will walk away with the understanding that their needs are valid and deserve to be met.
How Do I Feel
Feelings are typically defined in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs using exclusively feeling words (e.g. happy, sad, angry, etc.). This way of understanding feelings isn’t accessible to everyone. “How Do I Feel?” opens the door to different ways of understanding feelings. Within this topic, children will learn multiple ways to understand their feelings, including through interoception or body signals, values, and “like” statements.
Building Bridges of Understanding
Knowing your style of communication and being able to tell others about it builds bridges of understanding. Within this topic, we explore different communication styles, and with the help of the Insight Sprites, explore how different styles come together. A deeper understanding of these different styles makes space for overcoming misunderstandings or perceived expectations and validates all styles of communication.
Celebrating Me
The world often tells children, neurodivergent and neurotypical, that they are not enough. “Celebrating Me” honors, validates, and celebrates children for exactly who they are, rather than lamenting who they aren’t.
