The SANDE Bridge was designed to be used in the early childhood classroom setting to teach children of all different neurotypes (ADHD, Autistic, Neurotypical, etc) to recognize their own ways of thinking and being, embrace others, and ultimately bridge understanding between people.
No, the SANDE Bridge is not a school. It’s an online- based, educator led curriculum to be used in the early childhood classroom setting (ages 3-6). Parents and caregivers that are interested in the SANDE Bridge for their child(ren) can send us an email and we can try to help find a school using the SANDE Bridge near you.
Families whose children are in a SANDE Bridge classroom won’t have access to the classroom materials but will receive a newsletter from their teacher that describes each of the topics being taught and how to support children at home.
One SANDE Bridge subscription will support a whole classroom of students and educators. Additional classroom subscriptions can be purchased for an added fee.
The SANDE Bridge curriculum covers 10 topics.
- Same and Different
- Playing and Having Fun
- Many Ways of Communicating/ Talking
- Many Ways of Listening
- Understanding Needs
- Recognizing Feelings
- Self-Advocacy
- Finding Fairness
- Solving Problems
- Celebrating Me
Most other Social-Emotional Learning programs (even those designed for neurodivergent children) focus on teaching children that there are “right” and “wrong” ways to communicate, socialize and even think! It may not be obvious at first, but consider the SEL program that you are currently using, does it allow for a variety of people to exist in ways that are natural for them? The SANDE Bridge supports children in being their authentic selves, and creates understanding across people, without enforcing a single “right” way.
We are a strong supporter of the disability justice mantra “Nothing about us, without us”. Not only are the writers/ creators of the SANDE Bridge neurodivergent. The curriculum was built on feedback and input from the larger neurodivergent community.
For each unit there is a newsletter called “Nurturing Neurodiversity” that educators are encouraged to send home. These handouts describe the topic being taught in the classroom and how to support children at home.
There are no specific degrees/ certifications required for using the SANDE Bridge. We recommend that anyone using the child facing content participate in the professional development to ensure that the content is being delivered appropriately and you are making the most of the SANDE Bridge.
The included SANDE Bridge professional development is broken by topic into short easily digestible 10–15-minute mini-trainings (approximately 2 hours of training total).
Yes, the child facing lessons use evidence-based practices (EBS) established by scientific, peer-reviewed research. These practices have then been situated in a neurodiversity-affirming program. Read more about how each of these EBPs is incorporated into the SANDE Bridge learning modules.
The SANDE Bridge is broken into 10 units which build on one another. You can choose to use one SANDE Bridge unit each week, or each month. In addition to the professional development for your team, each unit contains a read-aloud, choose your own path story with supplemental materials, a classroom activity, and a parent handout.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with individual questions, we’re happy to help.
